Breakfast, Lunch and Curry Dinners….

It seemed like the whole of Woolacombe and it’s wife rocked up to the Red Barn today for the Big Breakfast Charity Event. Apart from the great cause, North Devon Hospice, which was a such a good motivator, just seeing all the Woolacombe locals and holidaymakers out and about so early on a beautifully sunny Saturday was a joy!

A great breakfast was followed for many by a leisurely stroll along the beach in the very welcome March sunshine. Although some of us just took the opportunity of chillin’ in the Barn and catching up on the weeks’ events and yet more coffee!
And as if this culinary event wasn’t enough…great news!…..Barricane Beach cafe is on its way back….Hopefully by the early part of next week, Stacy and Sumit will be back in the cafe, preparing for the Easter Holidays and beyond. Can’t wait to pop down for a cheeky cup of tea in the Spring sunshine and even more impatient for the legendary Sri Lankan curries!  Barricane Beach Curry nights, bring it on………

Table for two?……

Eating out in North Devon has never been better and there is definitely no better place to head than the pretty harbour town of Ilfracombe. The sheer number of good places to eat sets it apart from the other resorts in the area. Of course there’s the obvious, No.11 The Quay, the stunningly refurbished Damien Hirst restaurant on the harbour which undeniably set the bar very high when it opened several years back. More recently there has been a plethora of new restaurants in its wake, all offering extremely high grade tucker! Holiday Home Hunter staff enjoyed a particularly fine Christmas meal at the cool Olive Room in Fore Street Ilfracombe, accompanied by some wicked cocktails! Speaking of Fore Street, what a find! Stroll down from top to bottom and you’ll be spoilt for choice in eateries, even stumbling upon a Michelin Guide listed restaurant, namely The Gendarmerie. Lastly but not least there is our all time favourite, The Espresso on St James Place. Opening up at Easter after their annual winter break, we can’t wait. Just the aroma of exquisite seafood, garlic and grilled meats, transports you to sunnier climes. Sitting on their stylish sea view terrace on a sunny afternoon or watching the evening sun go down, you could be anywhere in the Med!

Half Term Valentine…….

Whether you are in the mood for love or just getting your loved ones away from it all, you couldn’t choose better than Woolacombe! Snow, what snow? Woolacombe has been lucky enough to escape the wintry blast that has hit the rest of the UK, that’ll be the micro-climate…With some really crisp sunny days under our belt and the return of some really good surf, things are looking up after a long winter. How about a bracing walk over the downs to Pickwell and Georgeham beyond? Destination the Rock Inn, warm and cosy for romantics, welcoming to families and dog walkers. Food to suit all tastes and pockets. Want to get dirty? Try quad biking over at Keypitts near Ilfracombe, fun and exhilarating as you roar over the breathtaking landscape.  Whatever your reason to escape the city,  a week or short break in Woolacombe and Mortehoe will undoubtedly leave you feeling relaxed and recharged. Why not start your love affair with North Devon?……..

Woolacombe flys the flag for UK holidays…

January may seem the dreariest month of the year for some people but here at Holiday Home Hunter there is no time for plaintive reflection. The bookings are flying in at such a rate that we can scarcely keep up! We are already seeing a huge increase on previous years and with the launch of our new website and the opening of the new shop in the centre of Woolacombe, it seems the only way is up. Our fantastic portfolio of properties is attracting lots of attention, both from faithful regulars and from a growing army of new customers. We are only too aware of the trying times out there and that’s why it’s good to know we offer such good value and quality for our holidaymakers. Why worry about a poor and fluctuating euro? Come to the Great British Seaside and re-discover the beautiful places on your doorstep. No stressful airport delays, no political uprisings! There is something to be said about a holiday in good old Blighty!

Sand, Sea and Santa?

Sunny? November is almost through and we are fast approaching Christmas and New Year. With yet another superb weekend of sun and surf just behind us its hard to believe that in just a few short weeks the annual festivities will be here. The Red Barn Beer Festival will liven things up in early December (2nd 3rd and 4th), with gallons of real ales and lashings of live music, it’s a great way to start December and another great excuse to slip down to the Woolacombe coast and soak up the cool pre-Christmas atmosphere.

For those of us lucky enough to have spent many a Christmas and New Year in Woolacombe and Mortehoe you would be hard pushed to persuade us to go anywhere else! Nearly every year I can remember we have been blessed with gorgeous sunny weather on Christmas and New Year, just the ticket for that stroll on Woolacombe sands. After the hectic build up what better way to celebrate and unwind? A gorgeous apartment overlooking the bay is one option for your Christmas dinner backdrop or a cosy cottage in the village of Mortehoe, just a stroll from the lovely pubs and eateries the village has to offer. And don’t worry if you are a confirmed shopaholic, along with the resorts’ great selection of individual retailers you also have O’ Little Town of Barnstaple, just a few miles away. It’s a must for those of you who are tired of all the usual, same old town centre shops as there are still lots of one off traders that make for the more special and unusual gifts as well as the delightful Pannier Market where you will also find the most amazing local produce for your Christmas dinner.

Holiday Home Hunter is now offering special prices for Christmas and New Year, just a little something from us to you!

November Spring Clean!

And yet another beautiful weekend in our lovely resort of Woolacombe. The sun shone, the temperature didn’t go much below 17c and yet again the surf was pumping! It was very hard to get a parking space on the Esplanade or Marine Drive for the forest of surfers who descended on the golden sands of Woolacombe to make the most of the excellent conditions.

And if that wasn’t enough the beach was also busy with enthusiastic volunteers alongside representatives from ‘Surfers Against Sewage’ taking part in the North Devon Beach Clean Series.

A gloriously sunny Sunday was a welcome gift on the Remembrance Day services that took place locally in Woolacombe and Mortehoe. The Poppy Wreaths on the War Memorial in Woolacombe were a poignant reminder.

Let’s hope these bonus conditions in Winter keep coming so that our lovely resort remains buzzing with surfers, golfers, horse riders and dog walkers, all making the most of our amazing location!

Was it really England?

November the 5th and 6th saw the most amazingly warm sunny days in our beautiful resort of Woolacombe. A firework display on the 5th in the meadow under a clear starry sky was a fantastic spectacle to behold. A very busy bar, delicious hot food and all accompanied by live music. I often think we are all very lucky to live in such a beautiful place but on a weekend like this one it really brings it home! And with such a fantastic array of accommodation to let through Holiday Home Hunter this super place is open to everyone to enjoy. Who would have thought people would be sunbathing in November on our glorious Woolacombe beach?
And if that isn’t enough, superb surf conditions prevailed for the Interclubs yearly surfing contest where locals of all ages came to compete against each other for their club. On Saturday evening after the event, everyone headed over to Bar Electric to celebrate victory or defeat? It didn’t really matter by then!
If all this activity is making you wish you were here, why not call up and book a break with Holiday Home Hunter……

New Shop Now Opened

After the fantastic opening party in our new premises, we have moved on to a very busy week in the resort. It’s been a great week to open the shop with lots of regulars popping by to put faces to voices! Great to see the shop generating so much interest from passers-by and lovely for us to be able to enthuse about our gorgeous properties to a new audience of potential Holiday Home Hunter customers. All in all the weather has been very kind to us this week and what a high to end the week on, Friday was stunning, the sea was amazing and you could have mistaken Woolacombe for a day in the high summer. The weekend looks set to be pretty good too, lovely and mild and surf too!
